Todd McLellan
Content-Todd McLellan is a photographer known for the taking apart or the dismantling of common items and appliances, down to their bare parts in order to show all the complex detail and variety of parts that go into making that particular product. He then lays the detailed parts out in very neat and aesthetically pleasing placing's and photographs them from an above angle in order to see a full overview of what has gone into that particular item. In order for something to decay as a whole, the elements inside of it must also perish for you to understand how (the process), therefore I believe this particular sub-genre perfectly links in with my overall theme. Also, by taking something apart, you are committing acts of man-made decay, therefore the stages in which I will go through in order to get the results I'm looking for link in with my focus also.
Form- Each photo is taken from an above angle, with bright-lighting filling the perfectly white setting. This is important as the plain setting helps foreground the extensive amount of appliances that go into the making of each item. The individual parts are laid out very neatly, almost forming a pattern in each example, making the overall pictures far more interesting and attractive to look at and also making the volume of each photo seem far greater.
Process- McLellan has identified objects that are very common amongst people within this country (bicycles, telephones, computers etc) and has surprised audiences with their intricate value. He has carefully dismantled them so that the parts remain intact, and then has arranged them in a very eye catching and impressive order to make them gasp, but leaves a sense of familiarity as to what each item is. He has photographed them from directly above looking down upon the subjects so that you are able to take in all the details and has used a camera capable of capturing all the specific parts as though every one were rich in importance.
